Scoutmaster Minutes

Justin-1

Hello, My name is Justin Sayre. I am the Scoutmaster of Troop 279 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. I’ve been involved in scouting since I was in second grade. I enjoyed the program very much as a youth. I was in Cub Scouts for 3 years where I earned the highest rank of Arrow of Light. In Boy Scouts for 8 years where I earned the rank of Eagle Scout with three palms the highest being Silver, I was also elected to the OA and am now a Brotherhood member. I have been an Adult Leader for 25 years now. I was an Assistant Scoutmaster for 1 year, and now Scoutmaster for 24 years. As an adult leader, I’ve completed Woodbagde Training, I’ve been awarded Scouters Key, Scouters Training Award, William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer award, Tri-Creek Award, District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver award. I have attended the 2010 BSA National Jamboree as Medical Staff, the 2011 World Scout Jamboree in Sweden as part of the International Service Team (IST), the 2013 Jamboree as Scoutmaster for the Simon Kenton Council, 2017 National Jamboree as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Thrasher Mountain, 2019 World Scout Jamboree in the United States as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Adventure Valley as part of the International Service Team (IST), and the Assistant Chief Nurse for the 2023 National Jamboree.

I never “planned” to stay this long, but I’ve had great kids in our program and fantastic adult leaders along the way. I have enjoyed every minute of scouting and now can’t imagine not doing it. I believe it is a great program for all youth and invite all young men and women to join. It has taught me a lot over the years, and now I have the awesome responsibility to teach a new group of young people. I think they teach me more than I had ever learned before.

I also want to thank the other adult leaders in my troop and in all of boy scouting. If it weren’t for you and I, there would be no program. Thank you very much, I couldn’t do it without you, and the youth appreciate it even if they don’t say thank you out loud all the time.
